KONBAN

Privacy policy

Last updated 24 September 2026

Konban is a watchlist app: it tracks films and shows you want to watch, rates how well a pick matches your taste, and shows where a title streams. This page explains what we collect to do that, why, and how to remove it.

Information we collect

  • Account details. Your email address, and if you sign in with Google, the name and email Google shares with our sign-in provider, Clerk.
  • Watchlist and ratings. Titles you track, the ratings and moods you give them, and the streaming services you tell us you subscribe to. This is what powers recommendations and availability.
  • Usage events. Which picks you click, dismiss, or add, so recommendations improve over time. Stored in our own database, not sent to an outside analytics service.
  • Device push token. If you turn on push notifications in the mobile app, the token identifying your device, so we can send renewal and episode reminders.

Where it's stored

Your account and app data are stored in a Postgres database hosted by Neon. The app itself is hosted on Vercel, which processes each request to serve it and keeps standard web server logs (IP address, timestamps).

Other services we use

A few features send a limited, specific request to an outside service. None of them receive your email address or account identity.

  • TheTVDB, Wikidata and Movie of the Night. When you search or open a title, we ask these catalogue providers for its details, ratings, and streaming or rental availability. We send the title being looked up, not who is looking it up.
  • Anthropic. Mood-based picks, the "why this pick" explanations, and in-app chat replies are generated by Anthropic's Claude models. We send your taste signals (ratings, watchlist, mood selection), not your email address or account identifiers.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging. If you turn on push notifications, Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers them to your device. We send your device's push token and the reminder text, nothing else.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, and we don't share your watchlist, ratings, or subscriptions with anyone beyond the services listed above, and only as needed to run the feature they support.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account removes it immediately, not after a delay.

Deleting your account

Open Settings and select Delete account, under Account. This permanently removes your account, watchlist, ratings, and subscriptions, immediately and without a recovery period. If you'd rather we do it for you, email the support address below.

Children

Konban is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
